Hour 15 Mini Challenge

Wow!  I can hardly believe we have made it to hour 15 already!  This calls for a celebration and a MINI CHALLENGE...don don donnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

So without further ado...

That's right folks!

Pick a character from one of the books you have read during the "thon" and tell us what their theme song would be (include song and artist).

Leave your choice in a comment on this post.  After three hours, the polls will close and I will choose a winner with the help of random.org.  I will post the winner here and they will also be posted on the official readathon page; with instructions on how to claim your spoils [email me at vampsrus(at)gmail(dot)com].

What is this gift, you ask?  I am offering a book of your choice up to $20 (USD) from The Book Depository. Please check the list of countries they ship to here.  So start your entries! :)

My character is Xcor from Lover Unleashed by JR Ward (the only book that I have gotten to so far; I get distracted easily lol).  His theme song is most definitely "Bodies" by Drowning Pool.

~Helena

PS - After you complete the challenge, stick around a while.  Comment on the entries of other participants, visit other entries on this blog, follow me through google connect or twitter if you are interested.  I love meeting and chatting with fellow readers/bloggers and authors! :)

Nicci from the book Recovery. Her theme song would be I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany.

I'm about to finish Ian McEwan's "On Chesil Beach." The main female character, Florence Mayhew, is deathly afraid of her wedding night. While this song is simplifying things, the first tune that came to mind was M.C. Hammer's "Can't Touch This."

I'm now sifting through Anno's Britain and the only song I can think of (and playing right now in my iTunes) would be KT Tunstall's 'Other Side of the World' - seems to pretty apt with Anno journeying through seascapes and landscapes (across Spain, USA and Britain - well at least the books I already have) and him being literally from the 'other side of the world.' This is a lovely mini-challenge. Will post the video in my next update.

I read a Sweet Valley High Book (#31 Taking Sides in which the twins each try to help their bff's win the heart of Jeffrey French), so I'm picking rich, spoiled girl Lila Folwer and giving her the song Material Girl by Madonna.

The theme song for Gale from The Hunger Games is Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy. The lyrics that pertain to him the most are:
Well I never want to see you unhappy
I thought you'd want the same for me

Goodbye my almost lover
Goodbye my hopeless dream
I'm trying not to think about you
Can't you just let me be?

So long my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
Should've known you'd bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do

From Terry Pratchett's Men at Arms, I choose Corporal Carrot and his theme song would be "Harbor" by Vienna Teng. A little odd, but fitting, I think.

My character would be Cam from mine till mignight! His song would be What The Hell by avril lavigne! Why? cause Amelia drives him NUTS! LOL

I read Made for You and Me by Caitlin Shetterly, which is a memoir, so I guess there aren't really characters so much as people. But if it were a movie, at the last scene and into the credits I think "The Riddle" by Five for Fighting would be playing. I think it fits well with where Caitlin and her family ended up, and I thought of it as I finished the book! Hope that counts :-)

Queen Lucinda from King by Blood of Right and Might by Anna L. Walls. I think her theme tune would be 'Fight From the Inside' by Queen

Yelena Zaltana from The Study Series.

Theme Song: That Girl Is Poison by Bell Biv Davoe

I'm reading Dante's Journey by JC Marino. The main character is Joe Dante. For some reason, I guess because of the setting of the book, I keep thinking of DIO songs (Ronnie James Dio)...either Holy Diver or Rainbow in the Dark. Rest in Peace, Ronnie James.

I think this is my favourite mini-challenge so far. :)

Anyway, I'm currently reading "The Death List" by Paul Johnston, and is about a writer being forced to write the exploits of a sadistic murderer (with a fun sense of humour and irony) called the White Devil. If I could pick a theme song for him, it would have to be "When You're Evil" by Voltaire. It's just so fitting for his... villainyness. (15 hours of reading, I think I'm allowed to make up a word :D)

I'm reading The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols, and a great song for Lori would be "Get Rid of That Girl" by the Donnas. Lori is a cool, tough tomboy who is trying to make a guy jealous, even though he's always dating some other girl. Seems thematically appropriate!

Chelle said...

My character is Elizabeth from A Taste of Magic (Tracy Madison). She's very indecisive throughout the book as she explores her feelings about herself. As such, I think "I Keep Looking" by Sara Evans fits her pretty well.

Birdie said...

I'm reading Queen Lucia by E.F. Benson. I think Lucia's song would be "Glamorous Life" by Sheila E. It's not entirely fitting, but Lucia is always concerned about the wrong things, just as the woman in the song is.

I'm about halfway through book 4, "The Accidental Artist." I love your question and I answered it for all the books I've read so far.

I'm reading A Werewolf in Manhattan by Vicki Lewis Thompson and one of the main characters is the smokin hot werewolf Aidan. And since I am horrible at coming up with theme songs I will go with I'm Too Sexy because he's too sexy for his shirt...so sexy it hurts. LOL!

Karen said...

I've been reading The Ring of Solomon and Bartimaeus, the djinni, should have the theme song The Sorcerer's Apprentice!

I've been listening to Hyperion on my ipod, and while all of the characters are pilgrims, none of them are believers in the religion of the sponsors of the trek. I've chosen Heretics, by Andrew Bird.

It also works because I don't really like the song and I'm having a little trouble with the beginning of this book!

This is going to sound so dumb but I am reading City of Bones and of course I love Jace. The first thing that came to mind was Bad Things by Jace Everett. My mind works in weird ways.

Kristen said...

I'm reading THrough Her Eyes by Jennifer Archer and I think I could see the character Tate singing Green Eyes by Coldplay to the main character Tansy. :)

This is something I think about a lot when I'm reading. I just finished Den of Thieves and think "Hi, Low, In," by Paris Combo. The heroine, Cat, is visiting Paris, and she's always getting into trouble whether she's with her high-brow friends or in "low places," so I think it fits the book pretty well.

I did Dimitri from The Vampire Dimitri picking Chicago "If you leave me now" http://www.geekybloggersbookblog.com/2011/04/deweys-24-hr-read-thon-tracking-post.html

I am reading " Numbers" by Rachel Ward. The female character can look at people and see the date they are going to die. Yikes! I think a great song for her would be "The Flaming Lips-Do You Realize?" It reminds us all that everyone has a day they will die and to make the most of the time they have....it eerily fits this book.

Thanks for the challenge.

I'm reading The Immortal Fire by Anne Ursu. One of the main characters is named Charlotte Mielswetzski ("Meals-wet-ski. Got it?"). She's a tough character who isn't that fazed by the fact that her middle school is burned down by a mythological beast.

Because of that, I'll choose "Another Brick in the Wall," Class of '99's version, for her theme song.

Sherry Ann said...

I finished 'T is For Trespass' by Sue Grafton. Kinsey Millhone's theme song is "Bad" by Michael Jackson.

J.D.M. said...

I apologize in advance because I've been listening to classical music for the past 14 hours and that's where my character's theme song will come from. (It also helps that the *cough*one*cough* book I've finished lends itself especially well to classical music.)

So, without further hemming and hawing...the character I've selected is Algernon from A Well-Timed Enchantment by Vivian Vande Velde and his theme song would be 'Romeo and Juliet Ballet Suite 2. Op. 64: Montagues & Capulets' by Sergei Prokofiev because the tone suites him perfectly...a bit skulk-y and seemingly duplicitous even when he turns out not to be.

Thanks for hosting this mini challenge and offering a much needed mental break from reading. :D

I am not a big music fan. Therefore, I will pick I will Always Love You (Whitney Houston's version) for Henry DeTamble (The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger)

I suppose I can be forgiven a copy/paste fail at this stage in the reading? :-)

I am reading a trilogy so my character choices are pretty limited. But I think that Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2 would be a great theme song for Viola from Patrick Ness's Chaos Walking series.

Ok, somehow I got logged into my friend's google account. That "Lagie" answer is mine

Yelena Zaltana from The Study Series.

Theme Song: That Girl Is Poison by Bell Biv Davoe

She is a poison taster and at the end, her lover says that she herself is poison.

I haven't finished reading Sean Griswold's Head, yet but I'm working on it. So far, I think the main character Payton's theme song should be the theme from "Get Smart" the sixties TV series because she is supposed to be working on Focus Exercises but is instead beginning to try and learn more about her subject, Sean Griswold.
This is Mary part of the Chessie's reading team in Mineola.

Boppo (Roger Rosenblatt) from Making Toast's song would be Yesterday by the Beatles. Definitely spent a lot of time thinking about the past with his daughter.

I just finished Howl's Moving Castle and I'm going to pick Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" for Howl. He's incredibly vain (though lovable) and spends hours in the bathroom every morning getting ready.

Love this mini-challenge idea!

I read "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay. It's about a friendly, neighborhood serial killer. (The "Dexter" series on Showtime is based on this book.)

Naturally, his song will be "Murder by Numbers" by The Police. It's a fantastic song, and you can listen to it on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLG66ER0UUM

I'm reading City of Bones and when I think of Jace I hear Breaking Benjamin's "I Will Not Bow."

As soon as I started thinking about Wendy from Switched by Amanda Hocking the song Firework by Katy Perry popped into my head. It may not be a perfect fit, but it actually depicts Wendy quite well. She doesn't think all that highly of herself, in fact thinks of herself as a burden to those she loves, but she is supposedly destined for great things to come.

Fun challenge idea! I'm going to go with Bertram from All's Well That Ends Well. He's cocky and seems to think he's God's gift to women so I'm going to go with "I'm too Sexy" by Right Said Fred

My book pick is The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen and for the title character I would pick The First Cut is the Deepest by Keith Hampshire...

The theme song for Mia from If I Stay would be Bach's Cello Suite #1 by Yo Yo Ma... no question! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZn_VBgkPNY

I'm re-reading Lover Avenged right now. My character is Ehlena and her theme song for most of the book is "He Loves You" by The Pretty Reckless. :)

Min from "Bet Me" by Jennifer Crusie. I'm thinking "Bulletproof" by La Roux is perfect for her, cause she is trying so hard not to like and get hurt by Cal.

fakesteph said...

I'm reading Dancing In My Nuddy Pants by Lousie Rennison. The main character Georgia could have two theme songs. Just Dance by Lady Gaga, because she is always dancing and also kind of selfish and fun. Or Friday by Rebecca Black because Georgia would totally make her own music video that is that embarrassing. She did, after all, go to a party dressed as a stuffed olive.

Judylynn said...

Sheila in The Linen Queen. Her theme song? Torn Between Two Lovers (an oldie!).

Mer said...

I'll take the path of least resistance and use Rob Fleming from High Fidelity - and the song has to be "Got to Get You Off My Mind" by Solomon Burke!

Reading The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, and I Just Can't Wait to be King from the Lion King is really very applicable to many of the characters: namely King Stephen and Empress Maude; and William Haleigh and Waleran Bigod have very high aspirations even if it's isn't a crown.

When I was reading I Am Number Four the song Our War by Lovedrug kept cropping into my head.

Tami said...

Jacob and Marlena from Water for Elephants - naturally their theme song would be "Baby Elephant Walk" composed by Henry Mancini

Roof Beam Reader said...

Haha - this is a great idea!

I'm going to go with the character Lysistrata, from the first book (play) I read today - Lysistrata by Aristophanes.

This is an ancient Greek comedy about a woman who organizes all the women in Greece to abstain from having sex with their husbands/lovers until they vow to end all wars and make peace with neighbors.

The theme song I pick for her:
"These Boots Are Made for Walking" by Nancy Sinatra!

The first book I read today really stuck with me. The character that I'm thinking of is Jenna/Jennifer and I'd say her song is "Weight of the World" by Evanescence. She struggles so much with her past/current worlds colliding and everything that entails on such a personal level. Just seems to fit.

Happy reading to everyone!

Marco's (from Moon Palace by Paul Auster) soundtrack is definitely
I Started Something I Couldn't Finish by The Smith. He must be the most self-destructive character I've ever read about.

My character is Belly from The Summer I Turned Pretty. I immediately thought of Bubbly by Colby Caillat as her theme song. She's sweet, a bit naive and I think it suits her.

Agatha Christie's 'Elephants Can Remember' i'm singing "Born Free"!
